Three cheers for Ohio House Speaker Armond Budish of Beachwood for checkmating a legal but underhanded parliamentary maneuver aimed at making it legal to carry concealed weapons in bars. Unlike a half dozen other Greater Cleveland House members, and many more from downstate, Budish shows he's committed to the public interest -- and public safety.

the (same) petition rule (also) says the House can't vote up or down on the guns-in-bars bill sooner than two House meeting days after Wednesday's session. And though there may be one more House meeting day before Dec. 31, there almost certainly won't be a second. That's because the speaker decides when the House meets. And Budish, in contrast to so many of his House colleagues, has his priorities straight.
