I've Had About All I Want To Take--Need Answers

A few weeks ago, I half-facetiously brought up the subject of a recall on Kasich. Now, with this whole SB 5 nonsense (nothing more than an all-out assault on labor and the middle class--this is Union-Busting 101), I'm really starting to consider whether or not I and the like-minded people of Ohio should start actively pursuing recall. But I have a few questions first, and any help anyone might be able to provide in this regard would be greatly appreciated.

1. What are the standards for determining whether Recall is an appropriate action? What does the elected official have to do in order for Recall to be a possibility?

2. Assuming those standards have been met, how does one begin an action for Recall?

3. Is it something We the People can begin on our own, or do we have to get an Ohio Legislator in our corner to spearhead it?

Again, anybody with intimate knowledge of the procedures here in Ohio who might be able to answer some of the above questions, or at least get me pointed in the right direction, would be greatly appreciated.

I remember when California recalled Gov. Gray Davis, and it seemed to me at the time that it happened for no better reason than the fact that a lot of people just plain didn't like him. Here in Ohio, I think that after only one month in office, we've already got ample evidence that Kasich has as his primary goal nothing short of the complete and utter destruction of our State and the subsequent looting by him and his rich, big business buddies.

But even despite the bad news contained therein, I will continue to research this issue, because I think there IS a procedure to remove State officials from office rather than just by impeachment. I'm going to check a few other resources.

3. The Ohio Bar Association Says No

According to the OSBA, State officials cannot be removed by recall. And even non-State elected officials (who ARE subject to recall) get a full year in office before a petition for recall can be started. Looks like we're screwed. However, Kasich is such an arrogant prick that I'm betting he'll cross the line at some point and wander into Impeachment territory.

4. I Brought This Up Last Week and Was Told We Don't Have Recall In Ohio

I heard there is a protest of some sort tomorrow- thursday in columbus, i'd like to go if any one is going from the akron area

5. That's Partially True

We don't have recall of State-elected officials, but we are able to recall non-State elected officials (City and County officials, for example). So, we're out of the water with regard to Kasich as far as recall goes. We just have to hope we can get him impeached somehow (and good luck with that with a Republican Legislature).

Answers for Tea Party supporters

Tea Party members will be coming out to support SB 5. The Buckeye Institute makes it clear that ending collective bargaining is a priority. However, the Ohio Democratic Pary does not want any confrontations between public employees, union members or their supporters and Tea Party members. (And there may be individuals with a different agenda using the Tea Party as cover to antagonize or create problems that would be reported in the media.)

Any interactions between anti-SB 5 and pro-SB 5 Ohioans should be positive.

Messages to the Tea Party should be two-fold: Join us in building and strengthening the middle class in Ohio and America. We are you and you are us. We share the same values, good jobs, affordable health care, a strong economy.

Public employees serve you. Did you make coffee or take a shower this morning? They make sure your water is clean. Did you see a nurse in the past year because you or your family member was ill? They help you feel better. Did you shop for groceries in the past week? They stock your shelves with food. Did you drive on roads to Columbus today? Thet pave those roads. Do you feel safe knowing the police or a firefighter is a phone call away? They are your cops and your firefighters.
