Security boosted for Kasich speech in Canton
A number of community and labor groups plan to protest Tuesday where Gov. John Kasich is scheduled to speak.

An AFL-CIO spokesman said people will demonstrate their opposition to state Senate Bill 5.

Canton Police Chief Dean McKimm said the department will have added security at Memorial Civic Center. Protests are allowed on public property as long as participants don’t become disorderly, he said.

Opponents of Senate Bill 5 say the proposal would abolish collective bargaining rights for state workers and restrict teachers, firefighters, police, university employees and local workers in their bargaining abilities.
