Occupy Cincinnati protesters to march to court

DOWNTOWN - Occupy Cincinnati protesters who have been receiving police citations for refusing to leave a public park at night are planning to take their fight to the courts today.

The group says in an email that it will stage a march today to the Hamilton County Justice Center, where at least one member of the group has a hearing on a police citation.

The last three nights, officers have written tickets to demonstrators who have refused to leave Piatt Park after its closing time. Each ticket comes with a $105 fine.

Cincinnati police issued citations to 47 people Tuesday night for remaining in the park after 10 p.m. There were 21 citations Sunday and 30 on Monday ...

DOWNTOWN - The 80 Occupy Cincinnati protesters who received citations from police for staying at Piatt Park past 10 p.m. on Monday and Tuesday nights launched their legal fight Wednesday to try to avoid paying their $105 fines.

One of the protesters, Hugh Hirsch, entered not-guilty pleas on behalf of himself and the other 79 who were arraigned Wednesday in Hamilton County Municipal Court.

Magistrate J. G. Littner accepted the pleas, but made no ruling.

The 21 protesters who received citations on Sunday night will be arraigned in court on Oct. 20. ...
