Columbus - A secret list of donors who gave $4.2 million for attack ads targeting Ohio Supreme Court Justice Alice Robie Resnick in the 2000 election campaign was released Friday.
The action ended a four-year legal battle by the Ohio Chamber of Commerce to shield the information from the public. The list is a virtual who's who of corporate and insurance giants and powerful chief executives, all of whom had been promised anonymity in exchange for contributions...
Cliff Arnebeck, an attorney representing the Alliance for Democracy, which joined the complaint, said yesterday that the Chamber still has not revealed the source of $200,000 it donated to the ad campaign... The ads, however, backfired and Resnick handily defeated Republican opponent Judge Terrence O'Donnell, of the 8th Ohio District Court of Appeals, by 57 percent to 43 percent. Gov. Bob Taft appointed O'Donnell to a vacant seat on the Supreme Court in 2003, and he won election last November....
