A conservative perspective on Hackett's race blog:
Finally, Schmidt's victory in the Republican primary makes it extremely unlikely that leading Democrats nationally will take an interest in the special election August 2 between Schmidt and Democratic primary victor Paul Hackett. Since Schmidt lacks the high negatives of Pat DeWine or Bob McEwen, she will be viewed as a prohibitive front-runner in the overwhelmingly Republican district. Resources will not be wasted on a race in which a Democratic takeover appears extremely unlikely, even with an appealing candidate who is an Iraq War veteran.

In the end, Schmidt's success as a candidate had much to do with the basics of campaigning: raise adequate money (even if it comes from yourself), spend that money and your time wisely to gain name recognition, and keep positive and on-message. Schmidt's positive campaign seems poised to ensure united Republican support on August 2, with which she should easily win victory to represent Ohio's 2nd District in Congress.
