OH-02: First Paul Hackett Commercial
The Hackett for Congress campaign has released its first commercial: A Call to Service. Democrat Paul Hackett is running in Ohio's 2nd Congressional District's August 2nd special election to replace Rob Portman.

The Hackett for Congress campaign has stated that these ads will start running tomorrow.

You will need QuickTime to view these videos.

Hackett is a Marine who just returned from serving in Iraq. He volunteered to serve despite his objections to the war. His platform can be summed up by this statement he made in the first debate against his opponent Jean Schmidt:

I’m for limited government, I’m for fiscal responsibility, I’m for a strong national defense, and I’m for fair trade. What do these concepts stand for? That means I don’t need Washington to tell me how to live my personal live, or how to pray to my God. And I don’t need Washington to dictate to my wife the decisions that she makes with her doctor, any more than I need Washington to tell me which guns I can keep in my gun safe.

On Tuesday James Carville will be the featured speaker at a fundraiser for Hackett in Cincinnati.

4. Replacing a Republican
The special election is to replace Republican Rob Portman, who was chosen by President Bush to be United States Trade Representative. The 2nd district is considered the heart of Bush Country. It is Ohio's most Republican District.

But, the primary was heavily contested and he is running against what some have called everyone's third choice. There have also been a lot of scandals comming out about his rival.

6. Unfortunately being a Democrat in the 2nd district...
is not good. Most of the counties in the district are heavy repuke. The woman running on the repuke ticket is a right wing xtian who is anti-choice. A good fit for the majority of voters in the district. I should know since we have lived in the district for 17+ years. As a liberal the past 17 years has been tough here.

If he wins there will be one big party in Mason, OH because it will be at my house and any DU members in the district are invited.

7. yep !
between warren & clermont counties, I don't know which one is more republican. I hear the 2nd district is a bit of both.

It is going to be one heck of a fight, he needs all the help he can get.

13. So no real urban areas.....
Sciota and Pike use to be solid democratic countys...

Now it seems all of this is rural and exurban....

Tough call....

I live up north in Cleveland and anyone who could keep sending people like Taft into office has got to be buying the brand and not the individual...

Tough one for our guy....

14. Why doesn't he show pictures of Bush smiling and then show the dead
Hackett why doesn't he show pictures of Bush smiling and then show the dead soldiers of that day. It's a win-win for Hackett. Either Bush is sick. Smiling after learning of the dead Americans. Or Bush is completely incompentent and has no idea what's going on in Iraq.

Are Democratic handlers this stupid NOT to do this?
