Will Hackett run again?
OH-2 will be up again in 2006 at its normal time. We'll get higher turnout then. Plus, we will be able to use Schmidt's record against her. Also, a respectable showing in upper Kentucky might be a good omen for a state office like Sec. of the State.

I certainly hope he does...
... he put up an excellent showing in a hard-to-win area. The Dems need more Hacketts badly.

2. Do you think he would give a thought to run for US Senate?? This election
was seen nationally and he has good, positive name recognition. Is DeWine a solid in Ohio?

4. DeSwine aint so solid in Ohio right now.
His approval rating isn't that great and the trust factor is in the toilet.

9. I am really glad to hear that dewine is not solid. I watch a great deal of
the Senate on C-Span2 and on top of the lies he spews he bores me to death when ever he speaks. After his first sentence my mind automatically tunes him out.

7. There are some other strong candidates considering that.
I won't say who, but Hackett's showing in GOPtard land might be the deciding factor for a decision to run.

3. He was just on Al Franken's show and said he didn't have to make
any decisions right away. He said he is going to think about it and talk to his wife and family.

He sure didn't rule anything out.

8. Too much for a neophyte.
He needs more experience running a campaign before challenging DeWiner in such a money and media intensive race. If he wanted my advice, he should solidify his gains and hit the 2nd again in 2006 or seek a state office. The advantage to a state-wide race is that all of Ohio is not as backward as the 2nd. The disadvantage is that it would spread his resources pretty thin at a time when he will be competing for volunteers and funding with the gubernatorial campaign and other Congressional races.

12. What about
John Edwards he ran against an incumbent and beat them with no political experience. As far as volunteers and money go, with the following that he's attracted with his house race I don't think he'll have a money or volunteer problem

13. It isn't impossible, ...
... but Edward's success is not exactly an example of how to build a constituency. Edwards was already pretty wealthy and well known from his law practice. Also, he ran prior to the Bush political/media machine taking office.

What the real problem would be is that the right will be pouring cash into this race in an effort to retain control of the Senate. They will also be providing assistance to DeWine in the form of media and campaign expertise. DeWine played dirty before and he will not hesitate in '06. It is important to have a candidate who knows how to handle that type of thing. What is more is that there will be numerous high-profile races next year and Hackett would be competing for resources with candidates for state offices and other Congressional seats. Running for one Congressional seat out of 11 is one thing, but it will be hard to pull off a state-win victory when he has no prior political accomplishments and, therefore, no built-in base of support. This was the only Congressional race that I know about for the August election and much of Hackett's support came from that fact. Much of it will dry up when there are other races.

14. The right will
Also be pouring in money for various other races and if Hackett can show he can make a race vs Dewine competitive, he won't have problems getting money from the DSCC and various other sources. I think you may have a point with lack of experience but I don't think money will be a problem. As far as handling attacks I thought he did an excellent job of that against Schmidt.

6. He did say he was going to decide where he would be most
helpful to people in the uniform -- and it did sound awfully likely that he would run again rather than going back to Iraq in 2006. He said that in the meantime he will be definitely involved in other political activities. He sounded very upbeat. Charles Cook came after him and said if he were GOP, and esp GOP in Ohio, he would be very, very concerned.

11. Yes, it definitely sounds like it has gotten into his blood - running
for office.

IMO, that is a plus for us. :)
