I am not familiar with OH politics, so I wouldn't know about this guy. I just saw that he was a "D" and assumed that that was a good thing.

5. Strickland is a solid dem but leans right on some things...

He voted against the war, against CAFTA, and I believe against the tax cuts.

However, he supports late term abortion bans and has a 100% NRA rating (the latter of which I don't mind that much).

I think that he's probably the strongest candidate that the dems could field for the race. He has popular appeal in parts of the state that went to Bush. His real challenge will be getting the African American community to support him over Blackwell. For some insane reason, African Americans seem to like this asshole who tries to keep them from voting.

Oh yea and speaking of which, Ken Blackwell being the GOP nominee (which seems quite likely) is reason enough to vote for pretty much any dem in that race. But if I lived in Ohio I'd vote for Strickland for more reasons than that.

Well I doubt African Americans would have as much problems voting if he realized that a majority of them would vote for him.

Having said that, I went to his official site. Anticipating what I found, I saw a big "Contribute" sign and a "K". I was thinking... people can surprise you... was it a link to a way you could donate to Katrina?

Not a mention of Katrina on his site. Nary a one.


And wait till displaced African American Louisianans start arriving in Ohio and they tell their stories... that will prompt a sea change in public opinion among native black Ohioans.

Strickland if he appeals to African American issues, could well win over a resounding majority of blacks in Ohio just as Barbara Boxer won a resounding majority of Asian Americans over right wing shill Matt Fong over in CA.

:D ...leans left on economic issues, solid on defence but critical of the adminisration and a moderate on social issues he've very like Tim Ryan, if the two run for statewide office then that'll be an all populist line up next November :)

He'll be a darn fine governor and i really don't see a republican who can save the governor's mansion for the GOP next year :D

My economic plan for Ohio is to retrain, rebuild, re-invent, re-stablize, re-energize and most of all restore hope to Ohio and the good citizens who deserve better than the hand they have been dealt over the past decade.
A real 21st Century growth strategy requires the State to partner with local government rather than view them as an enemy or a competitor for scarce resources… After all, the local community is the building block for the state of Ohio. For the state to grow, to thrive again… its cities, small, medium and large… and their metropolitan areas must also grow.

The primary is a still a few months out. Mayor Coleman was the FIRST mayor of a large US city to endorse Wes Clark in 2003. I like him. So keep yer powder dry!
