Noon til 2 pm on Saturday, May 1st 41st and S. Yale (Free Speech Corner) at the Southroads and Promenade Mall corners.

On May 1, 2003, George W. Bush, prematurely and with all the machismo he could muster, announced "mission accomplished" in Iraq. One year later, there's a Bush doll dressed in a flight suit being sold in stores to inspire future cannon fodder.

But the mission is far from accomplished.

*As of April 21, 707 American soldiers and over 10,000 Iraqi civilians have been killed.

*The occupation is costing 4.7 billion a month--that's over $15,000 a second.

And because our troops are spread so thinned, there's talk of reviving the draft so that more Americans can "bear some responsibility"..."pay some price" in defending the "nation's interest."

Please join the Tulsa Peace Fellowship in "defending our nation's interest." Tell passersby that

* Too many have died already

* It's time to cede control to U.N. lead forces.

* The occupation of Iraq takes precious dollars from health, education and human services etc.

* A draft will only make it easier for the US to fight more wars.

Start collecting signatures immediately, for delivery to your Senators and Representatives on May 1, or begin circulating the petition on May 1 for delivery on Memorial Day weekend. The petition campaign will continue in the coming weeks, but we hope to gather tens of thousands of signatures by May 1st.

Please make copies of the completed petitions before you mail them in: you will want to keep one copy for your group and we would love to get copies here at the UFPJ office. That will help us keep track of how the petition campaign is going all around the nation.

*GET THE MEDIA'S ATTENTION ON APRIL 29: LETTERS TO THE EDITOR AND CALLS TO RADIO TALK SHOWS.

We must get out the message that sending in more troops is NOT the answer to Iraq's problems. Use the anniversary of Bush's "mission accomplished" speech as an opportunity to write a letter to the editor explaining that the occupation is part of the problem, NOT the solution. Then take this message to the airwaves: every city and town has dozens of radio talk shows that allow call-ins. Make a call on April 29 and explain why the occupation is actually increasing the level of chaos and violence in Iraq and needs to end. Use the calls to help promote the vigil or other activity you're organizing for April 30 or May 1.

Can someone help me with some detailed directions. I am not at all familiar with Tulsa's streets and tend to get lost every time I go there...and it's been awhile since I've been there at all.

I no longer trust online maps. Some major online map makers have some major OKC streets screwed up, and it gets people seriously lost. I realized this when I was working for 7-11 and noticed far too many people asking for directions who had confused Morgan road for Meridian. They're within 5 miles of each other, but one goes to the airport while the other heads out into the middle of nowhere. I finally started asking about it and realized a couple different map services had the streets backward in their database.

Anyway, I just like to have someone tell me directions. Much appreciated.

8. I had fun

The weather sucked as 12 to 15 hardy souls showed up and waved protest signs. Last month the weather was better and we had over 120 show up.

I think we had both more supporters driving by with peace signs, but the bushites were out in force fliping the bird at us.

It was a good day and hopefully we woke a few people up.

And thanx for being there. :) Even standing out in the wind and rain. Just shows our resolve and that we act on what we believe in.

If more people knew how much fun it really is and what a release to be actually acting on your principles (not just typing about them) we'd have overflow crowds at these things.

I had my daughter and was planning on taking her with me, but she sprained her ankle Friday.

Glad y'all were there.

She's doing fine, just a little irritated that she got injured this close to the end of school.

I mentioned this in the Lounge last night, but I'll repeat it briefly here. My daughter has become an activist all on her own.

She and a group of friends held a "protest of silence" at their school against the mistreatment of gays and lesbians and the legislation that will ban observance of gay marriages. It was amazing to me that this came from a bunch of teenagers. I think it comes in part from their music. One of my daughter's favorite bands has a lead singer who is gay. This band also openly expresses its hatred of all things Bush, so my daughter's friends are also very anti-Bush. Maybe there's hope for future generations yet. I have a reason to like some of the rambling music that comes out today.

Anyway, one of their teachers resisted it, but they held to their guns, and the principal was smart enough to know that trying to force them to abandon being silent for one day could potentially bring down a rain of publicity he didn't want to deal with.

My daughter was looking forward to going to Tulsa. Hopefully there will be another she can come to.
