OKLAHOMA GOVERNOR HENRY ENDORSES OBAMA

By Ron Jenkins (AP)

Posted 8:24 p.m., April 22, 2008

OKLAHOMA CITY — Oklahoma Gov. Brad Henry endorsed Barack Obama for the Democratic presidential nomination Wednesday, calling him an inspirational leader who can unite the country.

"I believe Senator Obama is uniquely positioned to unite our nation and move beyond the divisiveness and partisan skirmishes that too often characterize politics as usual in Washington," Henry said early Wednesday in a statement released by the Obama press office in Chicago.

The endorsement one day after the Pennsylvania primary gave Obama the official support of three of the state's 10 superdelegates, while Clinton has the backing of one superdelegate. The rest are uncommitted.

Henry, a moderate Democrat in a Republican-trending state, said he had worked hard to build a consensus across party lines on such issues as education, job creation and health care and "that is why I am so enthusiastic about Barack Obama's candidacy."

2. Henry actually stands a good chance at a VP slot if it is Obama
Obama almost has to pick either a Clintonite, a labor person or a Southerner. Though it should be noted that Oklahoma went for Clinton in a big way, so this falls under the category of gutsy move, especially if he wants to run for Senate in 2010 or 2012. The difference is, Oklahoma hasn't had as much racial tension as other states (at least black/white). But by virtue of being the governor of a state, he is a superdelegate, so this is at least a minor win for Obama.

Like the above poster said, I hope the SDs put an end to this nonsense.

Obama is definitely our nominee, just needs to cross that threshold to make it official.

15. Who Cares?
After last night's Election we will have a Brokered Convention. Therefore we'll probably have a Compromise Candidate like Al Gore or John Edwards with Obama running as the VP.

This Pissing Contest is over folks.....The DNC and the Super Delegates already know it. "High Negatives" Hillary or "Not Ready For Prime Time" Obama will not be at the top of the ticket whatever the pundits say.

McCain would chew them up. A Gore/Obama ticket is now more likely and would win by a Landslide.

23. Who do you think
McCain is anyway. I see him as a feeble old man who doesn't know anything about Iraq and the economy. And those are issues that are important. McCain is going to show us all how much like Bush he really is. The only thing that has saved Billary is Bill, and the fact that some won't vote for a black man no matter what.

27. It's Going to be Hillary or Obama at the Convention
Why do people continue to think we'd have any hope of winning the GE if the DNC picks some random candidate out of a hat at the convention? Al Gore has said again and again he doesn't want the job.

He seems to have lost his taste for politics quite a time back.

32. Then you have a choice...
Face reality...You can have Clinton lose against McCain or Obama lose against him.

Take your pick.

And Gore has not taken himself out if you read the transcripts carefully of what he said.

36. We will see what happens at convention. Then I'll choose. Before then, I choose not.
I would say that it will go to convention with one or the other winning. I would also say that I find the former situation more likely to happen than the latter situation of Gore or someone else being the compromise candidate, but I am not saying the latter situation stands at 0 percent chance of happening because that would be dumb to say it is.

29. 1964 ...

Carter came close in 1976. He took most of the counties and was heavily favored in the SE part of the state -- which trends more Democratic anyway -- but was the heavy Republican areas in Tulsa and Oklahoma counties (and surrounding areas) gave the edge to Ford.

42. Truly, truly surprised myself!
With Clinton winning the primary, wow. I'd like to know the "back room" talk. I voted for Obama and was dreadfully disappointed that he got so few votes. But, I do believe that many in Okla. are racial. This State can be so frustrating politically. Course our media and press are dark red, enough said. I seldom watch the local news, really only when it starts storming outside, ha.

41. What in the world???
The endorsement one day after the Pennsylvania primary gave Obama the official support of three of the state's 10 superdelegates, while Clinton has the backing of one superdelegate. The rest are uncommitted.

I apologize in advance if this question seems idiotic because it's rather hard keeping up with all of this from Australia, but is this AFTER the Pennsylvania primary that Clinton supposedly won?? After "winning," she only has one superdelegate from Pennyslvania??

Has there been an official delegate count per candidate from Pennsylvania? I've looked and haven't seen one yet.
