Leaders in the U.S. Senate have offered Brad Carson an "informal commitment" that he can serve on the Senate's Armed Services Committee, the Second District congressman said Thursday.
Carson, a Democratic candidate for the U.S. Senate seat now held by Republican Don Nickles, answered questions about his legislative plans as he hosted a tele-conference for Oklahoma media.
Carson said the pledge will remain informal until election results are known and the leadership studies the "mix" in Senate and sees how many slots are open on the Armed Services Committee.
"They say it is very doable," Carson said, of the possibility Oklahoma could have two senators on that committee: Carson and Sen. Jim Inhofe, a Republican who could soon step into the committee's chairman slot if Republicans hold the majority.
