Interesting election numbers
I find it interesting that Dan Boren got more votes than Kirk Humphreys in a congressional race. I think Humphrey's finished with just under 60,000 and Boren got over 70,000.

What's even funnier is Humphrey's spent millions of dollars and had the backing of scumbags like Inhoffe and Keating, yet came away with a whopping 25 percent of the vote.

I happened to be in Bricktown Tuesday night and as I was riding in the elevator in the parking garage I noticed a lot of dejected Humphreys supporters coming out of his party down there.

1. Other Numbers of Interest

http://www.state.ok.us/~elections/04pri.html">http://www.state.ok.us/~elections/04pri.html

Senate
Carson -- 280019
Coburn --- 145965

Total Voters For Senate
Dems - 352782
Gopers - 238377

I think that the report that said 68% of Dems are voting and 50% of repukes are voting may turn out to be true. If that is the case then the Bush administration may be forced to take a second look at states like Oklahoma.

2. One could hope...
But, the numbers are deceiving in a closed primary system state where people still tend to register Democratic due to local races and tradition. For so long, few even ran as Republicans in most local Oklahoma districts, that is for the state House and Senate. In many cases, the real election was the primary and to even be able to vote in it, one had to register as a Democrat. Intertia has kept a lot of people Democrats who really aren't. If party registration were based on a principles test, this state would be so overwhelmingly Republican it's scary.

I know several Republican-minded people, people who always vote Republican in national races, who are registered as Democrats in SE Oklahoma for example. They affect the races in ways that are disruptive to any attempts to move the party here in a more progressive direction.

IOW, don't be fooled by the numbers. A lot of those Democrats who voted for Carson in the primary will vote for Coburn in the general election.

Boren, OTOH, will likely win in a walk.

As will Bush. If he gets less than 60% of OK's vote, I'll be very surprised.

3. What is really interesting about that is Carson was a slam dunk.
Which should have made turnout low. You're right that this is a good sign for the Democrats.

4. We are really disappointed in the outcome
of the boren--Free race. boren will be worse than coburn was for the 6 years it took to get rid of him.
