Not that I'd ever vote for Coburn, who I've known personally for 30 years, but Carson'd positions sound almost identical. :grr:

He's exactly like Lieberman. He's a new kind of democrat: The Republican kind! His voting record makes him look like a republican, and when we went to his meet up here in weatherford, there was a sign on the table that said: "Republicans for Carson." Scared the crap out of me. I almost left. Because no where did it say he was dem. It was like he was embarrassed or something.

4. That was my reaction exactly.

I guess he'll caucus with the Democrats which may cause me to vote for him, but the commercial makes me think he is going to switch sides after the election. Stranger things have happened.

5. yeah, it's a pretty revolting ad

I'll probably still vote for him (I know I won't vote for Coburn), but that ad ended any possibility I'd work for his campaign.

I mean, I understand that you've got to dance to the right a little bit when you're an Okie Dem, but Brad Edwards was at least still a Democrat in the governor's race, and he still won.

I refuse to give Carson any support just because he is a Dem. He needs to know he hasn't the support and I won't reward him for his record.

9. As bad as the ad is, and it's as bad as they get. Please reconsider.

I was furious at first also, but there are reasons to support him.

One, he'll caucus with the Democrats. That's critical.

Second, he really does plan to do good for Oklahoma. Our current representation doesn't believe in federal funding for anything so they fight it every step, including fighting for what is rightfully Oklahoma's. Carson plans to get to Oklahoma what is Oklahoma's. That is an oversimplification but it identifies a crucial problem here.

Go hear Carson speak, he doesn't sound that bad in person, certainly not like the ad. But he isn't a liberal either.

10. I don't trust Carson

When he was running for CD2 the first time, he said, "I will be like and vote like Mike Synar. As I say this I want to introduce Ms. Synar, Mike's mother and promise to her, I will vote as her son did."

Last Febuary while speaking at the Tulsa Chamber of Commerce he said, "There is no Demcorat in Congress today who supports President Bush more than I."

I will follow Hippy's Wife lead and not vote in that race.

12. He does tailor his speeches to his audience.

No doubt about it.

The first thing to remember is that Colburn is a certified Nazi, it is hard to imagine anyone worse. There is a real choice between the two philosophies, even if the choice is between conservative and insanity.

Also, Carson is committed to improving health care and roads in Oklahoma. He isn't perfect but if he were any further left he wouldn't have a prayer, and he barely has one as he is.

And the point I made earlier can't be emphasized enough: he'll bring us one vote closer to a majority. If * wins that one vote could save the country.

18. Mike Synar was a friend of mine when I lived in Muskogee back in...

1978?? Somewhere around there and I worked some on his campaign.
I think I will put a clothespin on my nose and vote against Coburn who
actually gave me a big hug when I ran into him at a small campaign gathering in Wagoner as he was running for his first term. It shocked everyone around. Haha...they didn't know I flew his daddy's plane with him in it all over the country for years.

Dan Boren signed a pledge to stay a Democrat.

We asked Brad Carson to sign the same pledge and he walked away.

Many people were saying Dan Boren would switch parties. The idea of a pledge came up and he signed it. There is no gaurantee, but at least he signed a pledge, something The US Senate candidate will not do.

he did very well up against coburn in the debates last week. He said all the right things for me. Pro-choice, anti-Bush, you get the idea. Whether he means it or not, I can't tell you. But he said it, so it's a start.

20. It's a simple choice

Either you're a Democrat and you vote for Democrats or you're not.

We have Carson, a conservative Dem, against a radical evangelical Christian who epitomizes the Jerry Falwell wing of the party. Coburn practically drinks strychnine and handles snakes on Sundays.

I'm not sure Dan Boren signing a pledge is at all relevant. He has a number of Repug stances on issues much like Carson. And did it ever occur to anyone that Carson being berated by deranged, random people at an ice cream social to sign a pledge might have seemed a tad ridiculous to him.

I will hold my nose and vote for Carson like I would hold my nose and vote for Dan Boren. If they have the stones to stand up and call themselves Democrats in this state, they are deserving of my vote. Period. End of story. There's no wiggle room to get picky and holier than thou.

I remember a lot of people I knew blowing off Dave McCurdy's loss to Inhoffe. No way Inhoffe will last, they said. And now where are we. Inhoffe is entrenched. I don't want TWO complete, off the chart wingnuts representing my state paving the way for the next generation of fundie wingnuts while the Democratic party in this state takes another beat down.

21. I heard that Coburn

thinks that abortion providers should be executed. He sounds like a real nutcase. Hell, I'm surprised Carson even admitted to being pro choice in a state like Oklahoma. This is a state that Bush will win by around 20 points.

Carson may not be great, but as someone that doesn't live in OK, I urge all Okies to try to give democrats control of the senate. The only realistic way of doing that is if Carson wins the Oklahoma senate seat.

22. Carson isn't making it easy for the base to get excited about him.

His ads have been mentioned, but also in a closely contested race here he said he admires the Republican incumbent.

Every time he does something like that the base gets less and less enthusiastic and even angry. Most (not all) say they'll still vote for him, but many don't know why they will support him. Some folks are saying they are going to leave that spot blank.

His strategy is to act like a Republican to get some Republican support, but it is easy to wonder whether he will lose as much on the Democratic side as he gains on the right.

It is extremely frustrating.
