Hello from a neighbor!
Just want to give a shout out to my fellow Cascadians in Oregon. Looking forward to my next visit to your state. I don't spend enough time down there.

1. I'm moving to Oregon
Since I don't live there yet, this probably doesn't count. :P

My SO, my daughter, and I are moving to Salem as soon as school ends. We live in Austin now, but the SO and I are both attending Willamette law school beginning in the fall. We had several schools to choose from (except UT, fascist bastards!) but fell in love with Oregon when we visited. We close on a house next week, and start moving soon afterward.

Can't freaking wait!

I've lived in Austin all my life, but I'm totally looking forward to living in the Pacific Northwest. I'm amazed at the variety of plants you can grow, I'm enchanted by the tall trees, totally blown away by the coastline, and mesmerized by the mountains. Feels like going home.

2. Gotta warn ya, once you get here it'll be hard to leave
I moved here from New Mexico in 1987 to go to college, and haven't been able to find anyplace I'd rather live since then. You're gonna love it -- and being a nearly 50-50 state, your vote WILL make a difference.

5. I'll echo organism's warning-
I also moved here to go to college, and I have been profoundly unsatisfied living (or sometimes even being) anywhere else for any length of time. Once Oregon has made its imprint on you, it will always beckon.

While its not at all what it was even 5 years ago, it still retains much of its unique character- so different in fact that crossing the border on I-5 from California really is like crossing into another country!

How very exciting for you and your family. If you love trees you will love this place, it is green all the time, plenty of water, rivers and outdoor activities. Nice to meet you :).
