SALEM — Three faces of former Gov. Neil Goldschmidt look down from a portrait outside the Senate chamber in the state Capitol. Some would like to see the portrait disappear.
Several legislators say the painting should come down in the wake of Goldschmidt's admission last week that he committed statutory rape on a 14-year-old girl in the 1970s.
"I think considering his recent admission of a third-degree felony rape, it is no longer appropriate for the portrait to hang in a place of honor," said Rep. Tim Knopp, R-Bend.
He is drafting a letter to all state lawmakers and calling for the committee that oversees Capitol administration to vote to remove the painting.
