If there are any fans out there of the band Misty River, they will be playing a benefit concert in a couple of weeks for one of their members, Carol Harley. Carol was diagnosed last year with Chronic Myelogenous Leukemia (CML). She is currently participating in a year-long clinical trial at OHSU that is funded by one of the pharmaceutical manufacturers, but that's due to end in May. Her costs for the drug (Gleevec) that will keep the cancer in remission will be around $27,000 a year and will have to come out of her own pocket, as her health coverage doesn't cover prescriptions. (She's been on Medicare for the past few years, having retiring from teaching on disability after breaking her back in an accident.)
The concert is in Eugene on Saturday, April 9th at 7:30 (doors open at 6:30), at The Shedd Institute for the Performing Arts, 868 High Street. Tickets are $20/$17/$12 and are available through the box office (541) 687-6526.
If you'd like more information, the band's web site is www.mistyriverband.com. Carol has a letter posted on the site from last month that gives an update on her condition.
