County precinct leaders' resolution calls for protecting good-paying jobsWashington County Democrats have added their voices to those concerned about a proposed Wal-Mart store that could be built near Southwest Cedar Hills Boulevard and Northwest Barnes Road.
About five dozen Democratic precinct leaders voted unanimously May 26 to support a resolution calling for changes to state land-use law that consider “employment impact statements” when a large development comes to town.
“We’re not targeting Wal-Mart,” said Lupita Maurer, chairwoman of the Washington County Democratic Central Committee. “We’re looking at any predatory company that comes into our area. We’re worried about keeping good jobs in the community.
“No community should have to accept the kind of development that takes away good jobs.”
