best time to ride a bike in Portland? 2am!
Unemployment is great, I go bicycling at 2am, and there's NO ONE on the freaking streets! Own the road. Swerve all over the place. Ignore traffic signals. Go really fast. Scare cats. Wheeeeeee!

But the catch is, you gotta be on your toes because anyone else on the roads, whether driving or biking or walking, is likely to be just as nutty as you!

1. Good to know
Love Portland, but negotiating traffic there does tend to scare me anytime of day or night. Bike riding can be dangerous here in Central Oregon, too--my husband almost got run down by an "inattentive driver" awhile back while biking for health. I'll mention the 2 a.m. idea, with the caveat about others who might be just as nutty. As a Native Oregonian, he's pretty much seen 'em all!

Have a good one.

3. Nah, she's too busy chasing the naked Critical Mass riders!
The great thing is, no matter how obnoxious I get on my bicycle, the Critical Mass guys have already pushed the envelope about as far as it can possibly go and still involve bicycles.

Middle of June, it's not supposed to friggin' rain. Where's my 90' heat?

8. Rain on June 23rd?
I don't think so. Maybe a few drizzle drops, but it sure didn't rain!

:)

9. It didn't just drizzle, It RAINED
I remember that night well. Could have been heavier in my part of Portland, of course. Weirdest damn thing, I was just starting to get into these regular "midnight rides", and suddenly after a perfectly clear day there was a downpour at 2am.

10. Dude, we've gotten nothing but a slight drizzle once or twice...
Edited on Wed Aug-04-04 07:54 PM by HuckleB
since early June. You sure you weren't drinking that night?

;)

On edit: I checked Weather Underground's History of that date, and we got a trace of rain. You new to town?

11. "Dude", you are pushin' it
1. I have lived here for about 15 years, the last of which has been unemployed
2. We almost always have dry summers, hence my mock distress in the earlier post
3. Just because WU recorded trace rain in their damned airport rainguage doesn't mean that's how much it rained next to my house
4. I KNOW what I saw out the window
5. No, I wasn't drinking, although in retrospect I should have been
6. Don't call me Dude!

12. Hmm. Seems like you need a drink right now, however.
Damn. A little tense today?

:)

5. Ever tried Zoo Bombing?
Take lightrail to Washington Park & scream downhill into North West. Then do it again. It's a blast.

7. Washington Park is inside the fairless zone, right? Or close to it?
It'll be like skiing without the lift tickets! I've gotta try this thing! Come to think of it, I do know a few people who are avid Zoo Bombers -- perhaps even naked Zoo Bombers...

6. I once closed a bar in Beaverton...
then rode my bike home to Multnomah Village. I was doing fine following the double yellow line down the middle of the road, until it turned into a broken yellow line. I kept losing it and getting lost.

I don't know how I would have handled oncoming headlights.
