Seriously, I would never force someone to "hang" with us but if'n someone is interested who's not been able to make it into "town," maybe a road trip would be in order. Even the tiniest towns have a little coffee shop or diner where we could meet. Just thoughts I'm having since we have a bit of time on our hands right now and I'm not sure how soon that will change.

We're in the NE, around Sandy and 102nd. We're still in "Phoenix-mode" which means most places Portlanders think of as way across town are just a "drive around the block" to us. That translates to just tell us where and when and we'll get there. Make it convenient for yourself and others and we'll accommodate (this offer subject to change upon our acclimating to Portland geography in the coming months LOL).

He picked up one of the books you suggested.

He also said there was a cool little cafe/bar downtown called Velour that we should try. I'll post the info tomorrow...

Horse Brass looks good to us as well, traditional English fare is some of my favorite food (Well, bangers & mashed, London Broil, and fish & chips, anyway).

BTW, they say that the British Empire was founded by men in search of a decent meal.:D

12. Velour is it... very cool (new) place

according to FreedRadical. :)

No listing in the phone book (it's that new)

Corner of 1st and Oak, next to the Max Tracks at Saturday Market, right across from Skidmore Fountain.

I know this means absolutely nothing to you, as far as finding the place, but it's one of the best parts of Portland, IMHO.

Freed is calling me later with the exact address and anymore info he can come up with.

I am really going to try to make it, but we have to have this house finished by Monday morning so the carpet layers can get to work. You can't rush enamel, or it looks like crap. :( I'll do my best to be there. Freed will be there at 4pm in case I'm late (or absent. :cry: )
