Senator Smith:

AFP reported on Aug 13 that you said the following:

"I've often said it's not John Kerry's fault that he looks French, but it is his fault that he wants to pursue policies that have us act like the French...He advocates all kinds of additional socialism at home, appeasement abroad, and what that means is weakness for the future,"

What a profoundly ignorant, even bizarre, set of things to say. Not long ago, we Oregonians could take pride in a Senate delegation that comprised you and Ron Wyden working together for the benefit of our state and our nation. Now you seem to have slipped the rails and run off into some cuckoo-land of Rove-ian rhetoric.

You owe the people of Oregon an apology for your foul, intemperate remarks.

1. I second the motion

I never could stand "Hairboy" Smith. He's about as shallow as they come; but this absurd rap on Kerry just kills me. Why is it that the criticism from these assholes has no substance whatsoever. It's all about association: Kerry is French, Kerry is a socialist, Kerry is a terra-ist, blah, blah, blah.

2. The words were designed to appeal to the Falwell, Limbaugh, and

Hannity followers. He may have been sent them in an e-mail by the rove elves. Keep bigotry alive. Strike deeper at hate against Kerry plus french fureners.

3. Maybe the next election Dems will actually try to unseat him

Thus far, they're simply rolled over (as usual) offering either token opposition (Bradley) or a candidate who basically played dead (Tom Bruggere).

It's not like Gordon Smith is particularly popular- he could have easily been brought down, had the party ever really tried.

4. Yeah, Wyden beat his ass

Smith is just a bigshot at the downtown social clubs, that nasty cologne prime-rib crowd, those eaters of the grey broccoli.

There's no reason he should be elected Secretary of Key Club.

I never had anything against him. Don't like his politics, but he seemed nice enough. He's come up with a couple of real bush buttkissers the last couple weeks. I won't forget!!
