Merkley camp calls on Smith to return remaining Stevens' money

After U.S. Sen. Ted Stevens (R-Alaska) was found guilty on federal corruption charges Monday, U.S. Senate candidate Jeff Merkley’s (D-Portland) campaign sent out a statement requesting that U.S. Sen. Gordon Smith (R-Pendleton) rid himself of any campaign funds he had ever received from Stevens.

"Gordon Smith has benefited personally and politically from Ted Stevens and his fountain of cash," said Merkley campaign spokesman Matt Canter. "Smith should have done the right thing and returned the money when Stevens was first indicted, but he should certainly do the right thing now" ...
