The Radical Russ Belville Show Has Been Cancelled!
Sad news, friends: "Radical" Russ, Sunday AM habitue of the KPOJ schedule, feircely-intelligent and witty but still just a NORML guy, someone who made the liberal talk radio landscape a little more interesting, has been cancelled:

It saddens me to report that I have just received a call from the VP of Original Talk for the newly-merged XM/Sirius Satellite Radio to inform me that, effective immediately, The Russ Belville Show will no longer air on satellite radio. This will also mean no more replays on AM 620 KPOJ as well.

It has been a fantastic experience, from entering the local KPOJ contest and winning to visiting Washington DC for the first time to win the national contest. I’ve met Thom Hartmann, Ed Schultz, Bill Press, and other behind-the-scenes radio professionals, all of whom have been extremely generous in helping me to become a talk radio host. I’ll never forget it.

I wasn't necessarily on board with the cannabis stuff, but I liked his unafraid approach to the issues.

Aloha, Russ.

1. Sorry to hear this. Wasn't able to listen to him every Sunday on KPOJ
But really enjoyed his show, perspective, ability to articulate the issues. Hope he gets another gig!

2. He's going back to working with NORML for now
he mentioned about how he hadn't been able to be as involved as he wanted to over the last three years, and reconnecting to that.

3. I wish that ALL of my favorite progressive radio hosts would leave a podcast on some website ...
and I'll contribute monthly (or annually) just to hear it. I fear that will be the only option of the future if things keep going the way they are going.

4. Now that Randi's gone in the afternoon, why not have Russ?
I read at www.oregonmediainsiders.com a great suggestion. Have Russ Belville do a local afternoon show. I love that idea.

If KPOJ has the money, why not do a local afternoon show? I love the local morning show, couldn't start my day without it. What do you think?
