Former Oregon Gov. John Kitzhaber tossed his trademark cowboy hat into what is becoming a very crowded 2010 race for the position he once held for two terms.
Kitzhaber, who was elected governor in 1994 and re-elected 1998, filed the preliminary paperwork with the Oregon Secretary of State’s Office for the run on Wednesday.
There was a time when I wanted former Oregon Governor John Kitzhaber to go shake things up in DC. I saw him, during the campaigns, as a potential running mate, and later, as a potential candidate for one of Obama's cabinet positions. Now I'm glad that he didn't go. I won't list his accomplishments here (check his Wiki page, link below) but Oregonians of every stripe should be glad that he's running. During his two terms as Governor, he implemented the Oregon Health Plan. Since his governorship, Kitzhaber created the Archimedes Movement, a think tank completely devoted to health care reform.
