Legislator calls for fines whether or not flying ice causes death, injury.
By Daryl Nerl Of The Morning Call
Nearly a week after ice-packed highways paralyzed cars and trucks across eastern Pennsylvania, ice from the same storm continued to pose a hazard to motorists — and state Sen. Lisa Boscola was furious.
Boscola, D-Northampton, who led a legislative effort to penalize truckers and other motorists if ice from their vehicles causes injury or death, said Tuesday that she plans to introduce a new bill to toughen the law passed last year.
At a news conference at the state police barracks in Bethlehem, she also encouraged motorists to call police when they see ice flying off another moving vehicle.
''What infuriates me more than anything else is that three or four days after the storm, ice was still flying off of trucks and cars,'' Boscola said. ''That's just blatantly reckless and irresponsible, and we have to put a stop to that.''
