For the second time in nine months, the Senate today passed a bill that would loosen President Bush's restrictions on human embryonic stem cell research, but once again falling short of the 67 votes needed to override a promised veto.

The Senate voted 63 to 34 to pass the Stem Cell Research Enhancement Act, which would allow federally funded studies of stem cells isolated from embryos slated for destruction at fertility clinics. Read more..

The only difference between him and Santorum is that Casey is a nice man. He don't necessarily need a nice Senator, we need one that represents his constituents.

As long as Casey is NOT on the judiciary committee, he can do very little harm to the pro-choice movement. But if he were governor and somehow RoeVWade was overturned, he could have a major impact in Pennsylvania

I am very disappointed in your stem cell research vote. We needed you vote to help override President Bush's veto. I think you need to remember this state voted out Rick Santorum. If you are going to vote the way he did, then we all wasted our effort. Stem Cell Research is very important. It can save lives. The embryos just get thrown away anyway. I don't understand why you would not want a life to be saved by something that is just thrown away. I know that you’re catholic. I am catholic too. I do not believe a good politician allows their faith to legislate for them. There is a tall distinguished, very intelligent man from Massachusetts, in the Senate, who could explain this to you. Maybe you should invite him out for a cup of coffee.
