Congrats, PA. You are now the center of the political universe.
Get your robo-call blocker at Radio Shack tomorrow. You'll thank me.

:)

Question: when was the last time PA carried such weight in a primary?

1. It's hard to believe that the PA primary actually will be interesting this year,

to say the least!

Wasn't 1980 the year we picked Kennedy over Jimmy Carter--you never know what Pennsylvanians will do.

We're expecting tons of phone calls. The demographics of this home put me in Hillary's "base", and my son and his girlfriend in Obama's. We're not sure who considers my husband their "core voter!"

Governor Rendell endorsed Hillary Clinton long ago, but his votes from his last election came largely from Philadelphia and Pittsburgh. Those cities will be hotly contested on April 22; the voters there will not automatically follow Rendell's direction.

2. There are robo-call blockers on the market ???
Any brand available? Thanks.

Seriously, though, no one in PA, or for that matter, WY, MS, NC, etc. can now say their primary vote won't matter.

4. Yeah and PA is one of the states most at risk for election fraud or just plan problems.
Edited on Wed Mar-05-08 10:32 AM by Yellow Horse
PA is still at 51 counties on all-paperless DREs. There's nothing there to audit and they have a governor who loves "the buttons" (his term for the ancient Danaher 1242 pushbutton DRE used by 6 of the most populous counties including his home city of Philadelphia.) FMI see http://www.VotePA.us

Pennsylvania is the most swinging of the swing states with a huge PARTY machine (on both D and R sides) in addition to the funky voting machines.

Yup it's gonna be a wild and bumpy ride in the Keystone state that I hope doesn't end with President McCain and a right-wing stacked Supreme Court for decades.

There was just something so satisfying about them.

6. Me too. My county had them, and I miss them.
They're so old-fashioned, I had faith in them.

10. I loved the old Shoup machines
especially pulling the big handle that registered your vote *and* opened the curtain.

It really felt like you were making a statement and that was the exclamation point.

12. Northampton County had to take them out of retirement
Northampton County thought they had retired their old lever voting machines. Fortunately, they had not yet sold them for scrap. Their new electronic voting machines were de-certified because they were too easy to hack. They had to dust them off and reuse them last year until a different brand of electronic machines could be delivered.

14. Yeah, so now the dumbos in Northampton are buying USED electronic Sequoia machines that...
Edited on Sat Mar-15-08 06:57 PM by demodonkey

...some other state, probably New Mexico or Louisiana, is getting rid of.

Fools.

O yeah, the machine Northampton is getting didn't reconcile the number of voters to votes in the NJ Primary, and now it's under investigation there.

During it's first Pennsylvania exam, I personally SAW it change a test vote of like 5 votes for a test candidate to over 8,000 votes. In a 12-vote election!

But it was retested and "passed" so Pennsylvania's officials say, it's certified here so no worries; nothing to see, so move along citizen. And then Northampton's Commissioners cough up OUR MONEY (it was a STATE bailout that is paying for their machines) and toss it away to buy USED versions of this junk.

As I said, fools.

7. Hard to believe, isn't it!
I was so sure it would be all over by April 22. What a surprise!

Since there aren't any other primaries for a while to compete with us, we should get plenty of attention. I even saw Mayor Luke on CNN today!

8. Actually Will, this will be the SECOND time in a year and a half Pennsylvanians have
been at a pivotal point concerning the election of Democrats.

The first time was in November 2006, when control of Congress shifted from the GOP to the Dems because PA threw out Rick Santorum.

These folks are used to be robocalled ad nauseam and papered to death with campaign literature!

9. answer: never
at least not since I started voting in 1976.

1976 and 1984 we had some input in the decision, but this is a whole different ballgame.

In the general election this is a battleground area (PA-13). Today it is so calm it is eerie. The only lawn signs are for Ron Paul.

15. Worst Case Scenario View of PA
Here's a worst case scenario of what could happen in PA. For this to happen, Hillary would need to win some US House districts by a 3 to 1 or a 4 to 1 margin, which I don't believe will happen.

not only do they lie at times, specially Republicans robo-callers, but they just waste your time.
I'd love to see them banned for good.
