Obama's Western PA Events Announced
Edited on Wed Mar-26-08 03:12 PM by JPZenger
http://blog.pennlive.com/pennsyltucky/2008/03/barack_obama_road_trip_details.html

In addition to the following Western PA. events, there are unconfirmed reports Obama will do a rally in State College on Sunday. He would then probably be in southcentral PA Monday (Harrisburg??) and eastern PA Tuesday and Wednesday - in Allentown and Philadelphia, I'm guessing.

"The tour kicks off Friday morning with events in Pittsburgh and Greensburg. The above blog will post additional updates as more details come available.

Rally at the Soldiers and Sailors Military Museum and Memorial
4141 Fifth Avenue
Pittsburgh, PA 15213
Doors Open: 9:00 AM
Program Begins: 11:00 AM

Town hall meeting
Hempfield Area High School Gymnasium
4345 Route 136
Greensburg, PA 15601
Doors Open: 3:30 PM
Program Begins: 5:30 PM

Both events are free and open to the public, but require tickets. Keep reading for ticket info.

Pittsburgh tickets are available at Obama's Pittsburgh headquarters:
208 North Highland Avenue
Pittsburgh, PA 15206

Tickets will be available noon to 9 p.m. on Wednesday March 26th and 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Thursday March 27th

Greensburg tickets are available at Obama's Greensburg office:

Greensburg, PA 15670

Tickets will be available 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Wednesday March 26th and 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Thursday March 27th"

6. I'm excited too
But what's up with the Norwin Democrat's web site? After reading a Norwin Star article that talks about excitement building as the primary nears http://www.yournorwin.com/norwinstar/article/excitement-builds-primary-nears I got excited and visited the site: http://www.norwindemocrats.com/ and was amazed that they are supporting Kerry/Edwards in 2004????? Also surprising is that their next meeting is in October 2004 ???? The site says "If you have suggestions to e-mail them. Here's a suggestion NDC...update the website so interested democrats like me will not be immediately turned off to getting involved with local politics.
The Westmoreland County Democrats website is a little better but I was disappointed that Obama's appearances in Westmoreland County are not mentioned on the calendar of upcoming events!!!

8. The Westomoreland Co. Democrats are supporting Hillary...
I'm sure that is why there is no mention of Obama there.

9. Wow, are you from NH?
I've noticed too that the Norwin Dem website hasn't been updated.

Are you in North Huntingdon/Irwin? My kids go to Norwin.

14. Cool!
I went to school there. You know now it's "Norwin Middle School", grades 7 & 8. They closed East (it's now Queen of Angels catholic school). Hillcrest Elementary is now Hillcrest Intermediate School for grades 5 & 6, which is where my daughter now attends.

Do you remember when Sixth Street School was a 7th grade only building? As a middle school teacher myself (and soon-to-be parent of one), I don't think 7th graders should have a separate building, they need their own planet!

13. No, I am from Pittsburgh
No, I'm from Pittsburgh, but am thinking of relocating to Westmoreland County. I'm sick of the Allegheny County taxes, and the final straw was the drink tax (can't drown my sorrows without being taxed). If you know about Westmoreland County, I'd love to hear any advice on good school districts, and places to live. I have been through Irwin a few times and thought it was a really cute "small town". I'm not too involved now politically, but would like to be. Been a fan of the democratic underground for years, and usually read just the PA Forum.

15. Happy to help!
I can only speak from experience living here, not any of the other areas of Westmoreland County.

I am born and bred in North Huntingdon. Did my stints living out of state, out of the country, and in Allegheny county. We moved here 6 years ago after this house came up for sale that I had always loved. I love being back "home". I am a Norwin grad, and believe that I got a terrific education. I'm also impressed with the education my daughters are getting. When we moved from Bethel Park, our older daughter was in Kindergarten. In Bethel, they were learning the letters of the alphabet and #'s 1-10. When she entered Norwin, she had weekly spelling words, and math addition and subtraction papers for homework. We had a LOT of catching up to do at home!

Our community is great - I agree that downtown Irwin is charming. Lots of Mom & Pop stores. If you move here, definitely go to Rosendahls if you need any appliances.

We successfully fought off WalMart, but have Target, Giant Eagle, Alsto's, with lots of other stores within reasonable driving distance. We're just over the border from Allegheny county, and a quick ride down Rte. 30 and the Parkway to downtown.

Come and join us - we need more Democrats around here! We're in the house with the Leg Lamp in the window by Norwin Towne Square. Stop by any time!

11. Few signs - time to print your own
There are very few signs available in pa. It is time to print your own. Just google "Obama" and "signs" and you will find free downloads and images you can print onto T-shirts.
