HARRISBURG -- A clerk in state Sen. Bob Regola's Harrisburg office has been suspended without pay and benefits because she is suspected of "misusing" more than $40,000, some from one of his legislative accounts and some by making unauthorized credit card charges.
Pam Barnhart, 42, of the Harrisburg area was suspended by Senate President Pro Tem Joe Scarnati after Mr. Regola discovered that funds were "misused or missing" from an account he had established "for use in conjunction with his legislative duties."
He also said, "It also became apparent that several unauthorized credit card accounts had been opened and used in (Mr. Regola's) name."
Mr. Regola will leave office at the end of the current term Nov. 30 after serving four years in the Senate. He decided not to run for re-election after a jury cleared him of criminal charges for his handling of a gun used by his teenage neighbor to commit suicide.
