World leaders to hold economic summit in Pittsburgh

<snip>
Pittsburgh will host the world's major economic powers at a G20 Summit in September.

The White House made the announcement at a press briefing in Washington, D.C. this afternoon. The summit will be held on Sept. 24 and 25.

Presidential spokesman Robert Gibbs said the U.S. agreed to host the next summit during the London meeting earlier in the spring. Pittsburgh is "a good place" to hold the summit because of its recovery from the decline of the steel industry in the 1980s, he said.

At the Pittsburgh Summit, President Barack Obama will meet with leaders representing 85 percent of the world's economy to take stock of progress made since the most recent summits and discuss further actions to assure a sound and sustainable recovery from the global economic and financial crisis, officials said.

This is interesting.

1. I think this is awesome!!
It will put emphasis on our great city like never before.

On a different note, I'm also glad that I live in the 'burbs and won't be affected by this directly (except for the non-stop news coverage:puke: )

OTOH, maybe I'll venture dahntahn - I HATE driving in the city! - and hang in the bar where they're all staying and engage in some interesting conversation with some reps of the leaders. I don't have any faint hallucinations of actually meeting any of the big-wigs. I guess I'd be lucky to even get into town on one of those days.

2. I am very surprised that it's to be in Pittsburgh, and wondering how in the hell that happened.
Getting around in tahn during it will be madness, though. Traffic and security will make it crazier than usual.

10. how the hell that happened
http://www.time.com/time/magazine/article/0,9171,1848760,00.html

I hope my tone does not come off as mean over the internet. I am so angry over an idiot that never visited here spreading lies like he's Dick Cheney or something. I must have been masochistic to click on that link, after the horror of the other stuff I've been reading all day.

Time to get my ass outside, going to take a run out to Allegheny Cemetery, where I like to see the herd of 60+ deer that somehow manages to survive in this urban wasteland, then watch the psychedelic light show atop Childrens'Hospital on my way back up. Between counting deer and the rainbow lights, I'm barely aware that I've run a hilly 3.5 miles.

I'll try to come back tomorrow - I don't have enough posts to start my own topic, but was looking for the G2 thing and am glad somebody else started it. And thanks for helping defend the Burgh, much more nicely than I did. Damn I was so mad I did what I normally never do, respond with an fbomb without even reading the rest of the thread.

See yinz.
