Borders is closing most of their Waldenbooks stores and some of the Borders Express stores. So far, the full size Borders stores are not affected. Here's a list of the ones to be closed:

2. Ebay and Amazon are Hurting Retail Bookstores |
|
Borders bought Walden's, which turned out to be a bad decision. Mall rents are very high. Their freestanding Borders stores are doing better. However, the company has enormous debt and a couple years ago Barnes and Noble was trying to buy them out.
All book stores are being hurt by a current price way in which Amazon and Walmart are selling some new bestsellers for $10. Those books are supposed to be high profit sources.
Also, many people are reselling their books online as soon as they are finished with them. It is hard for a bookstore to sell a relatively new book for full price if there many copies available at half price or less.
