Posted today by Allentown Morning Call Columnist Bill White. Excerpt:

"On Feb. 8, U.S. Rep. John Murtha died. On March 4, Ken Sturzenacker of North Catasauqua received an urgent fundraising mailing for William T. Russell, Republican candidate for Murtha’s western Pennsylvania congressional seat, and signed by Russell's wife, Kasia.

Her letter noted that her husband was taking on “the biggest adversary our military has in the entire U.S. Congress — Democrat John Murtha” — and that “I write this letter with a heavy heart and a tremendous sense of urgency.”

She explained, “I spoke to Bill’s campaign manager a few hours ago. And I ask that you please keep what I’m about to share between you and me.” (Clearly, Sturzenacker double-crossed her.) The campaign manager told her that her husband needed to raise $57,500 in the next 72 hours or risk being severely behind schedule in its battle with the “corrupt, anti-military opportunist,” whose shortcomings and even possible criminal behavior she outlined.

She wrote that she was so troubled by the urgency of this need for $57,500 that she wrote this letter immediately rather than call her husband and trouble him with the bad news. I hate to suggest that Kasia was exaggerating about the time-sensitivity of her plea, but when this urgent message arrived, John Murtha had been dead for almost a month."
