DAN CONNOLLY- running in the 18th Congressional District...
Do I like him? Yes. I've been walking with him around my portion of Monroeville. At 27, he's already a successful lawyer, concentrating on labor law.
His campaign HQ is on Library Road, South Park, PA

Here's his link - http://www.voteconnolly.com

I was particularly intrigued to find out that my current Rep (Tim "the Republican machine" Murphy), the 3rd term incumbent, has somehow become a commissioned Lieutenant (Navy Reserves). As far as I can tell, Mr. Murphy is a child psychologist who has been associated with doing work for traumatic brain injury. Is that how easy it is to be commissioned in the military? I wonder what Murphy's APA thinks about extraordinary rendition and the roles psychologists have taken under Bush. All I know is that Murphy voted over 99% of the time with Mr. Bush.

1. Thank you for the info.
I would never vote for Murphy, but didn't know who was running against him.

2. Glad to provide it, femmocrat...
I think Murphy can finally hang it up, and judging from how he's running his so called, "town hall meetings", he's looking over his shoulder wondering.

3. Probably had navy pay for part of his college
I imagine he joined the Navy in college and had them pay part of his expenses, in return for service in the reserves. He may not have spent much time on active duty. A second lt. is the second lowest officer there is.

4. I don't think Murphy EVER served in the Navy
That's why I find it odd that he could be commissioned. If that is true, he's insulted plenty of people who earned their commission.

5. I wish him luck-this is my district too. Murphy's place seems to be set in cement.
I have been frustrated to even hear long time Democrats in the area talk him up. Warning-I was a committee person in this area and anyone who has ever ran for this seat on the Dem side has not received decent support from any Dem leaders. They ignore this race and the candidate-all the time. If your guy wants some help-don't expect any of it from them. I would suggest he go to the local high schools-there is a Project 18 program there and the students are usually real enthusiastic about volunteering and helping out candidates. Just about everyone who has used these students and made an effort to go door to door, has made out well-more wins than loses. But, your guy will have the current anti-Dem tide to deal with.

6. Time to KICK ... Tim Murphy's ASS

Five Reasons we Don’t Need Tim Murphy
to Represent the Good Folk of the 18th District

Murphy is closely aligned with the fossil fuel industries. In the first six quarters of the present Congress Tim Murphy received $119,450 from the Oil and Coal industries, making him the 10th Dirtiest Member in this Congress. For the total of four Congresses that he has been a member of, the average contribution from the Oil and Coal industries is $117,971. (http://dirtyenergymoney.com/)

Murphy has a dismal environmental voting record in Congress. Murphy’s League of Conservation Voters score for 2010 is expected to be lower than 20 pct. In 2009 he did actually improve his score to 36 pct from a lowly 24 pct in the previous Congress. (http://www.lcv.org/scorecard/scorecard_archives.html)

Murphy joined an effort to upturn the EPA’s finding that the emission of CO2 from stationary sources such as coal-fired power plants endangers the nation’s health. ... March 2010. Murphy was co-founder of the Congressional Natural Gas Caucus, a group that supports the Marcellus Shale drilling industry. … October 2009. (http://murphy.house.gov/index.cfm?sectionid=44§iontree=23,24,44&itemid=1170)

Murphy suggested that energy companies should be allowed to drill for Marcellus gas on Pittsburgh International Airport’s 9,000 acres. … September 2010. (http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/10248/1084905-28.stm <http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/10248/1084905-28.stm)

7. Murphy is my Rep also, and I will gladly vote for Connolly.
I have never voted for Murphy and never will. Good luck to your candidate, I would like to see some surprises in PA on election night. The Republicans are very confident they are a shoe-in. Usually some candidates go door to door or I get mailings. I haven't gotten anything yet this election cycle.

8. Do you read Murphy's continual "franking" ?
It litters my mailbox and e-mail inbox. So many photo ops, such little time.

Plus, those "town hall meetings" are phone based and stacked with tea-baggers or conservatives, which never seem to represent the 18th congressional district.
