Former U.S. Attorney Mary Beth Buchanan repeatedly exceeded the government rate for stays in luxury hotels in Washington and later refused to discuss the practice with federal investigators.
Buchanan said in a telephone interview she disagreed with many details and conclusions reached by Inspector General Glenn A. Fine, who included the information in a report issued Monday.
Buchanan, 47, of Fox Chapel resigned from the post last year to seek the Republican nomination in the 4th Congressional District. Her failed campaign championed her role as a government watchdog and fiscal conservative.
Dr. Cyril Wecht, former Allegheny County coroner and the subject of a lengthy and unsuccessful prosecutorial effort by Buchanan, said the report shows "blatant hypocrisy."
