Regarding Bob Casey and Obama's plan to get along with the Republicans
I caught Casey on TV tonight saying (or touting Obama) we need to compromise and thus it might lead to more compromise from the other side. Anyone else hear his statement which sounds to me as though he's another go along to get along Democrat? Let's give the rich and GOP whatever they want and then they might like us.

1. Casey has been a tool from the beginning. There has not been a real Dem in the Senate from PA since
Wofford, and he only was there replacing the last repug who had a (little bit of a) heart - John Heinz.

PA is a model of the US - sanity in the east and west with insanity (and guns & gawd) in between. Hence, the repugs rule the state, again.

2. I'm sorry, I disagree with your description of Senator Casey.
I may not agree with him on every issue, but IMHO is one of the few in the Senate who actually cares about his constituents.

5. I worked with Casey & his staff when he was Auditor General of PA.

He was incredibly ethical, decent and not-for-sale. This distinguished him from 98% of the politicians with whom I worked for some 10 years. This was back around 2002-03, and the issue we worked on was providing long term care for mentally disabled and severely autistic children and adults. I was staff attorney for a special legislative committee named to address the problem. A lot of parents of the disabled/autistic were campaigning very hard to get state support for various programs. These parents were political neophytes. They did not show up with a campaign contribution in one hand and a piece of legislation in the other, as the lobbyists and political hacks traditionally did.

Casey and his senior staff held lengthy meetings with the families, and gathered information from
them leading to performance audits by Casey's office, which backed up the parents' anectdotal reports. The parents/families were treated with respect and they were listened to. Some of the experiences these families had were nightmares. Casey really cared and he really helped. I can only tell you that the man has a personal integrity which comes shining through. I would compare him to John Heinz, whom I also greatly admired, although I never had the privilege of working with him.

3. He has been a good Senator overall - remember PA is a half conservative RW state,
and he has to represent everyone. I think he is a pretty conscientious Senator, and he will be our only Democrat after January when the GOP takes over most of everything else here.

4. I don't remember being "represented" by Spectre or Santorum and I certainly will not be
by Toomey.

But Democratic politicians are supposed to work for both sides?

6. Yes, all elected politicians are supposed to represent all their constituents
to best serve the interests of the citizens, not their sponsoring party. That is precisely what is wrong with the GOP,which serves the interest of corporations & the top 2 percent wealthiest individuals.

7. Do you remember Specter voting for Obama's stimulus plan?
Specter actually did vote with the Democrats every now and then, which is why he lost so much support from Republican voters.
