Rep. Tim Murphy Weighs Senate Run
"WASHINGTON -- Upper St. Clair's Tim Murphy, a four-term Republican congressman and child psychologist, is thinking about a run for U.S. Senate in 2012 against Bob Casey.

Mr. Murphy declined an interview about a Senate run, and his chief of staff, Susan Mosychuk, said there are no organized efforts or serious talk about a bid. But Mr. Murphy's strength in a swing district -- which he won again in a romp in November -- makes him an attractive candidate for many Republicans looking to topple Mr. Casey, who is in his first term.

"He has been a proven vote-getter in an area that is not the best area in the state for Republicans," said Harrisburg-based GOP strategist Charlie Gerow. "It works well for him among those that are going to look at the race in terms of the most viable candidate."

Mr. Murphy represents the 18th District, which includes the South Hills, most of Washington County and parts of Beaver and Westmoreland counties. The former home district of Rick Santorum -- whom Mr. Murphy got to know because they attended the same Roman Catholic church in Bethel Park -- was drawn with then-state senator Murphy in mind during the 2001 redistricting."

This, this is the same Tim Murphy who used his District Office to work on his campaign. Check out this video of Murphy snatching evidence from a TV reporter's hand! Priceless!

What a weasel.

1. Dent Too
US House member Charlie Dent (PA 15) is also being discussed as an opponent against Casey for US Senate. Dent has "not ruled out" running.

3. Run, Murphy, run!
If he gives up his House seat to run, and of course Casey would beat him--- then we could get a new Congressperson! :)

It's a dream scenario for those of us in his district, who were formerly represented by Frank Mascara.

4. It's a shame what the Republicans did to Mascara.
I remember meeting him when he was forced to run against Murtha.

Field of potential Casey challengers crowded

Sunday, December 19, 2010

>snip<

"Former Gov. Mark Schweiker and U.S. Rep. Tim Murphy of Upper St. Clair are being discussed as potential candidates to try to thwart Casey's 2012 re-election bid, National Journal reported.

"Harrisburg attorney Marc Scaringi thus far is the only Republican to formally declare his Senate candidacy. But the crowded pool of potential GOP challengers includes state Sen. Kim Ward of Hempfield, Pittsburgh businessman Glen Meakem, U.S. Reps. Jim Gerlach of Chester County and Charlie Dent of Allentown, and state Sen. Jake Corman of Centre County.

"We're not certain why Murphy is considering running, as he wouldn't offer a significant change from Casey. "

6. Schweiker's last 2 jobs: Chamber of Commerce & Big Pharma
Post Governorship
He left office when his term expired on January 21, 2003. Schweiker became President and CEO of the Greater Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce in February 2003 and served until 2009 when he announced his resignation to join Philadelphia area pharmaceutical manufacturer PRWT as President of business process outsourcing.

"Business process outsourcing"? as in, setting up drug testing and manufacturing overseas?
