Post-Gazette's Dennis Roddy spun stories for Corbett; rewarded w/ job.
Edited on Mon Feb-28-11 07:24 AM by Divernan
The news that Roddy's been hired for a vaguely defined "communications" job in the Governor's office - but still allowing him to work partially from his Mt. Lebanon home, adds a new perspective to answering the puzzling question of why the Post-Gazette, a traditionally Democratic newspaper in a Democratic stronghold of the state, incredibly endorsed Corbett over Onorato in the governor's race. In doing so, the PG's editorial board cavalierly dismissed any concerns over Corbett's already announced promise to Big Oil not to allow any extraction taxes on the destructive fracking industry. One can only hope that all members of the PG editorial board live next door to some fool who sells his mineral rights to a fracker. When they & their families have to live with toxic air & water quality and the reduction of their property value to zero, perhaps they'll have a change of editorial policy. When the democratic candidate Onorato's hometown, Democratic paper refused to endorse him, that had to hurt his chances very badly, both in Allegheny County and with independent voters throughout the state.

This link is replete with incidents where other papers, including Harrisburg's Patriot News, Chambersburg's Public Opinion and EVEN Scaife's Tribune Review (Brad Bumstead) were more critical of Corbett than Roddy's Post Gazette.

Snips
"And although Corbett's failure to pursue charges against Sen. Jane Orie - even turning away an intern who tried to report Orie's activities to the OAG - has raised eyebrows at other news outlets ("Orie charges political dynamite;" "Orie indictment could raise questions about Corbett’s probe") the Post-Gazette has raised no such concern."

"We've no doubt that "sources" indeed told Roddy in Sept. 2008 that investigators were pursuing allegations of a "top Republican aide" receiving a communications wiring upgrade at his home at taxpayer expense. The question remains, who then told him to keep it quiet, and why?"

In addition to writing many of the paper’s trash-the-Dems Bonusgate stories, Roddy put together the PG’s big Corbett profile during last year’s election. He and Corbett have known each other for years.
And talk about a puff piece, Roddy practically crowns Corbett governor ahead of the election.

One interesting item in this puff piece though, are quotes from Corbett promising concerned teachers there is no way he will take away or change the contract for teachers' pensions. File that promise away for future reference.

4. It seems like the PG's stories on Corbett all seem to soft-pedal the crap he is doing to this state.
As far as what he promised teachers, well I guess we'll see where tomorrow's budget ax will fall.

We just got our renewal bill from the Post Gazette...we're so disgusted we're thinking about cancelling.

It seems that the posters in this forum are for more informative and interested in the truth than the Post Gazette is right now. :)

5. Why pay? Just read it on line.
If you decide not to renew, let them know why.

6. We particularly enjoyed reading the Sunday paper, taking our time.
I also like getting the coupons and the ads.

They will definitely be informed of why we are not renewing!
