Fluids Spill from Ruptured GAs Well in Northern Pennsylvania
"CANTON, Pa. -- Operators have lost control of a natural gas well in rural northern Pennsylvania, leading to a spill of fluids used in the drilling process."

"Bradford County emergency officials say thousands of gallons of tainted water have spilled from a Chesapeake Energy Corp. well site near Canton since early today."

"Francis Roupp, deputy director of the county Emergency Management Agency, said the well was being hydraulically fractured when something went wrong. He says the fluids have reached a small stream but that "no adverse effects" have been reported."

Here we go again.

Chesapeake Energy Corp. is one of those out-of-state Oil Companies who Governor Gashole refuses to charge an extraction tax. It's so nice that they get to ruin our environment and not have any consequences whatsoever.

3. My personal favorite quote from the whole thing is when Twp. Supervisor Harold Sheddon, Jr. says:
*"I don't think it will really do any damage, other than pollute the stream."*

Truly a winner.

4. I'm sure the fish will just love it.
WNEP interviewed a man who said he's planning to drink the water at his home in the shadow of the drilling site. Is this stupidity or is the big lease check blinding him to reality?

5. Well, at least that man is not a hypocrite. Did you see Gasland?
No one seemed at all interested in drinking water from Dimock, even after saying that it was safe.

8. I haven't seen Gasland yet.
It wasn't shown anywhere near here so I'm planning to buy the video.

Two of my family members own property in the Marcellus fields and have signed contracts with Chesapeake. Neither of them have yet received any payments since the drilling hasn't been started in their locations. They have both been blinded to reality by the promise of a significant financial windfall. I fear for them.

9. I just saw Gasland at the Carnegie Library/Oakland.
It was only 107 minutes long, but it was so horrifying, it was the longest 107 minutes of my life. The only comparably terrible experience was the day I spent visiting the Nazi concentration camp, Sachsenhausen, just outside of Berlin. In both instances I found myself devastated and overwhelmed by the pure evil motivating actions by people who should be our "fellow human beings", but who actually are monsters. What the oil and gas industry has already done, and has positioned itself through political bribes to continue doing, through fracking, is horrifyingly destructive of our environment - water, land and air, and severely damaging to the public's health - both immediately and in the decades to come. About 20 minutes into the film, I was beginning to feel very uncomfortable. By 30 minutes I was squirming in my seat. I was checking my watch every ten minutes thinking surely the film had showed so many horrors that there could be nothing left to reveal. I went to the showing believing I had done a lot of research and knew a lot about the horrors of fracking. I was wrong - the situation is far worse. Seeing what has already happened in some other states was seeing Pennsylvania's future - like some devastated planet where aliens have landed and stripped all resources, leaving a wasteland behind. Here's a small portion of a review - just a few minutes of the film - but very powerful:

In one of the film's most touching moments, Fox visits Wyoming cattle rancher John Fenton. Fenton, the son of "old-time cowboys" is eloquent and evokes all the ideals of the American West. His property is surrounded by 24 gas wells. Vapors from the condensate tanks are sometimes so bad that they surround his house in a brown cloud. His wife Kathy suffers from headaches and dizziness, and a loss of smell. Fenton shakes his head as he looks at his herd of cattle. He calls his water "the damnedest-smelling stuff, comes out different colors all the time ... I don't know how they (the cattle) even drink it.

"We want to raise the best, most natural clean product we can raise ... but if you're breathing in dirty air and drinking water that could be tainted, what's coming out in these cows? You gotta be sure that what you're putting in `em is as pure as it can be. Cute as they are, in a year or two they're going to be on someone's dinner plate.

"We need to speak in a unified voice, and stand up to these a******."

11. I think it's time for our family to face the music and watch this movie.
Honestly, I've been avoiding it for the reasons you have mentioned.

Avoiding the problem isn't going to make it go away...so, it's time to rent Gasland.

6. I swear I don't know how these bozos get these jobs.
Maybe it was a misspeak, but that is a whopper. It is a winner.
