Experts of three recent newspaper editorials:

"Carved in stone: The governor spurns the public by refusing to yield (Post Gazette, Editorial) The pressure is on to enact a new state budget by July 1, and with Republicans controlling the House, the Senate and the Governor's Office, there's a good chance of that happening. But we think Gov. Tom Corbett should chill. In Lancaster Monday he said two things in public that showed an inflexibility toward budget differences with lawmakers, including some from his own party, and a deafness to concerns expressed by many Pennsylvanians.

State budget: Surplus could offset cuts in education, elsewhere (Patriot News, Editorial) Here's the good news: It looks like we will have a state budget in place before the July 1 deadline - the first time in nine years - a credit to committed legislative leaders and the governor. Here's the bad news: The plan still does not restore enough funding to basic education and is relying too heavily on cutting human services funding. House and Senate leaders and the governor's office are in the homestretch of pulling together a budget that is said to be less than the $27.3 billion Gov. Tom Corbett proposed in March. They are meeting regularly and putting together a deal to take to the full General Assembly soon.

Make an impact: Stop watering down the Marcellus Shale fee (Patriot News, Editorial) No more excuses. State lawmakers vowed to enact a severance tax on Marcellus Shale natural gas drilling a year ago. It was supposed to be done by September. The deadline came and went. Talks disintegrated. Attention turned to the election. Then the transition in the governor's mansion."

1. It's too bad that the Post Gazette decided to endorse Corbett for Governor.
If they would have taken a different stance last year, maybe we wouldn't be stuck with Governor Gashole.
