PA-19 House Race vs Todd Platts: Phil Avillo rocks!
Went to the kickoff of Phil Avillo's campaign last Friday night. I really like this man.
Phil he will come out to meet your house party or group of people so you can talk to a man before you 'pull the lever' (or whatever we will be doing next year hopefully with a paper trail!).
I also saw Phil speak last year at a Grassroots Meeting in York, Pa, and thoroughly agreed with and enjoyed listening to him.
Phil flew 69 missions over VietNam; see list of medals below. Wouldn't it be wonderful to have someone with a doctorate in history and actual war experience in the Congress? He is an anti-war activist also.
One of the greatest things about Phil is he isn't 'slick'. You see the real Phil it seems when he speaks. A thoughtful, intelligent, good, hard-working man with HEART.
Below is contact info from his website, www.AvilloforCongress.com, and a resume

1. The only problem is that the district is overwhelmingly Republican
It's not going to elect an Democrat unless the Republican nominee is indicted or caught in bed with a dead woman or live boy.

Avillo certainly has an impressive resume. Unfortunately resumes don't get you elected. Too bad he is not running for a different office or in a more winnable district.

2. My Neighbor Phil Avillo
I just so happen to live next door to Phil and am excited about his quest to unseat Todd Platts. Without a doubt he is going to have an uphill climb in swaying the hearts and minds of the 19th voters.

As an aside, York Drinking Liberally meets every second and fourth Wednesday at the First Capital for some friendly progressive conversation and a few pints.

5. we can win!
What you say about Todd Platts is what was said in 2002 about George Gekas in a similar district just across the Susquehanna, reconfigured to assure his reelection. Tim Holden's the D congressman for Harrisburg now.

6. Yes but Marylanders are moving into York County in noticeable
numbers, and Maryland = Democratic Party. This from a local real estate agent. The York County Dem Party has been almost extinct in activity until recently. There is some real activity beginning now.

18. Changes in the District
Now might be the year that the 19th surprises you. Voters are pretty sick and tired of what's been happening with the war, the economy, wire tapping, etc. Avillo needs our support. www.Avillo08.com

7. Im moving there

Will be signing a contract on a house next week. I am moving from Warren County Va (Frank Wolf) and it looks like I'll have Platts in there. While I know the district is Republican, Platts is moderate. Usually solid Rep districts go fascist, but Platts isn't, even though he's still bad.

I will be pulling my levers for whoever is up against Sanitarium and for Avillo. Can't wait.

8. Levers?
Depends on where you move...
PA 19th - By County
York = Levers? Electronic? (Depends on if they're installed in time, I think)
Adams = Paper (SAT Style - ES&S)
Cumberland = ?

11. Cumberland SAT style
That's what it's had in the past, paper ballots that are easy to add write-ins, and often we need them! I don't know what's been picked for the new, improved voting machines.

I've been getting some comparative information from DFA people in other counties and passing it along to my county chair.

12. Avillo Web Banners
Disclaimer: I am not officially affiliated with the campaign.

I made these and as of yet have not had confirmation that the campaign wants them. However, they are free for the taking. If you have a site or a friend has a site where you want to put up an image web banner for Phil Avillo feel free to use one of these. I hope to have more soon.

14. Vote Now For Your Candidate
Democracy for America is hosting an online vote to determine which congressional candidate will receive their next national DFA-List endorsement. The winning candidate will receive a DFA-List endorsement and a national e-mail from DFA's Chair Jim Dean.

I voted for Phil Avillo and would encourage you to do the same.

16. Great news for whom? Todd Platts?
In a terrible year for Republicans Platts mopped the floor with Avillo:

Platts 140,365 64% 100% of precincts reporting

Avillo 73,557 33%
