Chafee says he'll stay Republican

WASHINGTON -- Sen. Lincoln Chafee of Rhode Island, who flirted with changing political parties in the wake of President Bush's re-election, said today he will stay in the Republican Party, where he can best serve his Ocean State constituents.

"My Republican colleagues have let me know that they want me in their caucus," said Chafee. "They value the voice I bring and they have made it very clear to me that they respect and want that voice to be heard."

He added that he will be able to serve the state better as a member of the political party that controls Congress and the White House.

Chafee, who is part of a well-known Republican family but often votes with the Democrats, had said he would consider switching party affiliation if Bush were re-elected

1. They can have him.
He didn't come over when we needed him. We don't need him now.

8. He should be recalled. "The will of the people", ya know!

Corporate America controls the media and we get manufactured news.
Corporate America now controls the voting machines and we get manufactured elections.

9. Well, well, well, I have never believed he would switch anyway
Few people stick to principles when there is opportunity to side with the power that be.

10. He's a woose......
No shock, he's done this before, but he doesn't have the guts to stand up to the Foghorn Leghorns of the Senate.

14. I think that Chafee is genuinely a decent guy...
He's a Republican out of loyalty to his dad. I mean, the guy voted against the IWR, most democrats didn't have the balls to do that.

13. If I lived in RI I'd support a dem over him IF...
That democrat were just as much or more liberal than Chafee. Despite his loyalty to the Republican party, Chafee is liberal than half of the democraitc caucus. John Breaux once joked that Chaffee should join the democratic caucus because "he'd make a better democrat than I would."
