So, I think only Independents and Dems can vote in the Democratic primary. The thing is both of our candidates are solid progressives so you can't really lose with either one

3. I was looking

At it from a Dem. perpsective. I was saying that both candidates are slid progressives, so both candidates would be solid democrats. I was making a case for swtiching party ID to R to vote for Laffey since both Dems are good dems and either would make a great senator.

Good idea. I wished I lived in Rhode Island. Yes, in the general you can vote for whoever you like. This is a Democracy - most of the time.

You and I are definitely on the same page. I was afraid you were making an argument against quite temporarily registering as R's. For the record, I totally support the initial idea.


I'd just suggest that those who switch, do it well in advance. If there's a sudden influx of requests, it could alert them, and then they could make annoying processing delays and there'd be nothing to do about it come primary day and you're arguing with the annoying poll workers that you should be eligible... avoid that nightmare scenario by coordinaring and mailing in your change-of-party-affiliation-registration forms early...

The guy who was Attorney General? And when he was elected wasted no time in proposing that law enforcement personnel have access to all medical records? Sorry, what's progressive about open medical records?

8. Personally, I have already endorsed Brown over Whitehouse...

and while Sheeler, if he could succeed in getting the RI General Assembly to pass a resolution recommending that Congress impeach Bush (which I'll believe when it happens, and I don't particularly appreciate people making me think it had already happened; I almost started jumping on it and posting to my listservs; I don't like people misleading me into doing something that would undermine my credibility), would be my personal hero, let's be honest, he can't even win the primary, let alone the general election.

6. Voting In Primary

Good morning. A few thoughts. Any registered voter can vote in a primary. If a Democrat wishes to vote for a GOP candidate in a primary, they must first disaffiliate (become an Independent) and then vote. The reverse is true as well. Once you vote, you become a member of that party until you disaffiliate again and re-affiliate with your preferred party or remain an independent, which about half of Rhode Islanders are.

I have made a point of urging people to consider Chafee, not from a likability standpoint, because in general elections he clearly is.... Rather, stating principally progressive positions, but not nearly as often attempting to enact ones may not be walking the talk.

Simply we need action and solid leadership to oppose the undermining influence of the GOP and the soft leadership exhibited by many Dems.

My serious concern is if either Matt or Sheldon win the primary, what do they offer (other than claims) that is wholly different for progressive issues?

You may never make it to the floor of the US Senate, but the work you're doing is admirable and it's people like you that will push Matt Brown to be more like you and less like Whitehouse, over whom he likes to claim superiority over on his website, but it's not Whitehouse he needs to worry about -- it's Lincoln Chafee (with the full force of the RSCC behind him...)!!

11. Well i'm jealous....

I just realized that right now. I'm jealous because of the fact that Chafee may be defeated and if he is defeated it's by A democrat(either brown, whitehouse or sheeler)that is actually a real democrat.

Here in Pennsylvania, our Senator Rick Santorum may be out the door as well but if he is it's going Bob Casey that takes his seat, a guy who dispite the fact he's a Democrat has no liberal views at all and who wants Roe V. Wade overturned.
