CHICAGO (Reuters) - Senate Minority Leader Tom Daschle has lost ground in his re-election bid to Republican challenger John Thune, and the contest appears to be a statistical tie, according to a poll published on Thursday.
The poll of 800 registered South Dakota voters taken May 10 to 12 found Daschle with 49 percent compared to 47 percent for Thune, a former U.S. House member. There were 4 percent undecided and the poll had an error margin of plus or minus 4 points.
The survey, done for the Sioux Falls Argus Leader and KELO-TV in that city, found a tighter race than a similar poll taken in February which had Daschle with a 7-point lead in his bid for a fourth term.
