Vigils in Solidarity with Cindy Sheehan. The Gold Star mom camped outside of G. W. Bush's ranch at Crawford, Texas, demands to confer with the President. She wants to ask him, -- What is that "noble cause" for which he sacrificed the life of her son Casey? The troops won't get home until the people demand so strongly that the demands get through to the insensate and pathological dominators running our government.*
Wednesday, August 17
SIOUX FALLS, 7:30-9:30, Spellerberg Park, 26th Street & Western Avenue (east of VA Hospital, across the way from Spezia Restaurant). Lawn chairs are welcome. So are your signs, which will be visible during the hour before dusk. So are your music, your prayers, your poetry, or just your eloquent presence. Optional: Bring candles, light sticks, or flashlights to light at dusk. Stay off the sidewalks and the street. Because timing was so short, can't get a permit. So we are keeping our assembly on the grass, where no permit is needed.
VERMILLION, 7:30, Shrine to Music Museum, USD, corner of Clark & Yale. This will be a peace singalong, led by Mark Winegar, a grandpa who's good with a guitar. Come and bring friends to sing along (or hum along) for Cindy, for Casey, for all the hurting families whose loved ones the government took under false pretenses to Iraq, where too many have lost their lives or their limbs or their souls and minds.
Friday, August 19
VERMILLION, 2:00 pm, at the Underground, 125 E Main. This is a send off for a carful who are going down to Crawford to bring South Dakota encouragement to Cindy and the other parents at Camp Casey. The hat will be passed Friday to provide gasoline and provisions for the journey. If you bring a note or a card for Cindy, Bill and his buddies will deliver it to her. You can also mail some bucks to the gasoline fund. Send to Community for Peace & Justice, PO Box 601, Vermillion, SD 57069. If you mail from East River by Thursday's mail deadline, it will be there in time. Every little bit helps.
