Edited on Tue Sep-11-07 11:06 PM by rsmith6621

....I am brand new to Memphis and want to get politically engaged locally.

Anyhow.....I was wondering if there are any regular ENOUGH of this administration and the Iraq war street corner rally's if not anyone interest in organizing regular ENOUGH events...let me know.

8. I can certainly understand
My in-laws live there and they are...sad--that's a nice word for it.

Welcome to DU.

Unfortunately, TN seems to have little in the way of true activists. Note the dearth of really substantial posts involving political issues as compared to many of the other state forums on here.

While I can sympathize with the other poster here about giving up, I myself have decided to use my money and resources to do things on a national basis rather than just in TN itself.

Even then I am still amazed by the lack of REAL dedication to advancing the Democratic Party.
It seems that the often stated fact that it is easier to get people to give money than to get them to devote TIME to the cause is unfortunately very true. ( Although the money isn't easy to get either.)

I started a project about a year ago to give FREE websites to local party committees in an effort towards setting up an online network of party leaders on the local level. I have invested hours of my own and purchased over 200 domains (With MY OWN money.) to little effect overall. I have not been able to get even 1 person to help.

However, I will continue as best I am able with the hope that as the 2008 election draws closer, SOME people will begin to wake up.

3. local politics is hopeless here in Memphis
I don't know how anyone can stand it. More power to them (I guess). I love Mayor Wharton, and so does just about everybody. Herenton is the absolute worst. I can't say that I love any of our mayoral candidates, but I am going to vote for Morris.

Anyway, all that stuff about absentee balloting was a tempest in a teapot, the problems mostly being in the paranoid mind of our mayor. Morris is the only one who did drug testing (for a reason I am sure).

4. Carol Chumney is the only candidate in this city with a backbone
Herman Morris is an elitist who has never held a government position.

Please Please don't throw away your vote voting for him. Carol Chumney is the only candidate with the support at this time to defeat King Willie.

7. Stuck with him again
Surprise, surprise. Good grief, his brain is fried on whatever he has been smoking. How can people not see that? Sheesh.

9. I dont live there, but I know how it feels
Where I live it is very similar. The Democrats are few and far between and rallies and other get-togethers are non existant. Looking to move though. Maybe Chattanooga or Knoxville.
