Mumpower, might-nigh Speaker of the House, has a comic book collection
numbering in the thousands, reads a comic book each night before bed, and his current favorite is Spiderman. He's 35.

It's hard to imagine why he wouldn't be perfect to lead our state. Shame on all those Democrats for depriving us of such sterling leadership.

1. Seems appropriate for a Republican. Not very well-read nor very knowledgeable.

2. Spideyman?
Mumps was betrayed not by Williams, but by his own Spidey-senses...

It would be kind of a stretch to be expect Mumps to be reading John Locke or Thomas Paine...

3. What is this Mumpower's claim to fame? What did he do b/4 being a rep?
and let me guess, I bet he's NOT married. LOL

When I've seen him on TV he looks like a kid who has an inflated sense of himself who is trying too hard.

Comic books EVERY night......grow up.

4. Mumps bagged groceries at the Food City chain in Bristol
Edited on Sat Jan-17-09 02:18 PM by doeriver

Mumps bagged groceries (between ages 16-19, presumably as both a high school student attendingTennessee High School and as a college student while attending King College) at the Food City chain store in Bristol...I seem to recall that Mumps also worked for a brief time within King College as a fund raiser or similar position around the time of his fininshing up at King College.

I have heard one account that Mumps was (volunttered or paid employee) a student intern with the Tennessee General Assembly, likely sometime between 1991 to 1995, although I have not been yet able to confirm the information through either online news reports or official biographies of Rep. Mumpower (if you have verifiable knowledge either confirming or disproving this info of Rep. Jason Mumpower supposedly being a TNGA intern during this time period, please post here)

Mumps was first elected into the Tennessee House of Representatives at age 22 and has been employed by Jon Lundberg (himself later elected into the Tennessee House of Representatives) owner of the Bristol based Corporate Image marketing and public relations firm:

And while Rep. Jason Mumpower was a bitter opponent of the creation of the Tennessee Lottery (even speaking against the creation of a Tennessee Lottery at churches in Northeast Tennessee), the Assocaited Press reported "...that the company where he has worked for 10 years unsuccessfully bid for a share of the lottery's marketing contract."

In October 2007, Rep, Mumpower was licensed as "Real Estate Appraiser - Registered Trainee" --- on his state discloser form, Mumps listed his employer as "NWP Real Estate Appraisals" , a.k.a. Nancy Point Appraisals of Rogersville. I have yet to learn of any news media sources reporting of this information within a Mumpower bio.

In 1991, Mumps married a former secretary of Governor Don Sundquist, Alicia Nancy Point of Rogersville. The representative's wife was at one time allegedly able to secure a cushy and well-paid position with the Bristol area chamber of commerce, and is currently employed by Patriot Title Company of Kingsport, Tennessee. Mrs. Mumpower is said to be an attractive woman, although I have not been able to locate any online photographs of Rep. and Mrs. Mumpower together in public events (or even photographs of Mrs. Mumpower herself). And similar fashion, Rep. Mumpower has not previously listed information pertaining to either his marital status or spouse on his Tennessee House of Representatives biography page.]

5. Thanks, Doeriver. He lists a PO BOX as his address. Has his
physical address been confirmed? In other words, does he ACTUALLY LIVE IN THE DISTRICT HE REPRESENTS? Seems like Rogersville might be his actual home now, or Kingsport.

Cozy that his ex-boss is also a Rep. This smells to me. What is wrong with the people of Bristol that they would elect a 22yo to the House of Rep? Bristol is a large enough town surely to have better qualified candidates run. Who was his opposition?

I'm so thankful he was defeated.

6. you can always check the state property tax cards (online)
I pulled this record sometime around March 8, 2007 --- you might want to go online and check out the current information. As to if his address is within his district, you can contact the Sullivan County Election Commission for verification:

I seem to recall that Mumpower ran unopposed...I don't reside within TNH-3, but I have listened to enough of these extreme-right wing Republicans in the Bristol-Blountville area to know that a lot of these GOPers from this area are nuttier than squirrel turds...

8. I suspect it's the Fundie Factor.
King College is a very conservative religious college as I recall.
As long as he's a "good church-goin' Christian, I'm sure he'll do a wonderful job" mentality, to heck w/real qualifications. :eyes:

Guess he met a lot of little ole' church ladies abaggin' their groceries....."He's such a nice young man." :puke:

I had no idea there was that detailed information on the Internet about our homes....kinda scary! :scared:
