Humphrey on the Hill | knoxnews.com Robin Smith: Caucus Vote Changes Nothing http://blogs.knoxnews.com/knx/humphrey/2009/03/robin-smith-caucus-vote-change.html
State Republican Chairman Robin Smith says the House Republican Caucus vote to admit Kent Williams as a member changes nothing from the party's perspective.

The state GOP, she said, is already moving forward with plans to defeat Williams in November, 2010.
Former state Rep. Jerome Cochran of Elizabethton and at least two other persons - she declined to name them -are considering a run for the Republican nomination to oppose Williams, Smith said.
Smith said the Caucus vote merely shows the party and the party's legislators have different purposes.
"The purpose of Tennessee Republican Party and the purpose of the House Republican Caucus serve different purposes and they operate under completely different bylaws," Smith said in a telephone interview.
"Our purpose is to stand on our principles and be the voice of Republican voters across the state of Tennessee," she said. "Their charge (caucus members) is to conduct their legislative agenda."
From the party perspective, she said, "Kent Williams became the Democratic nominee on Jan.13" and "bargained away" his right to be considered a Republican.
