Giving Freed TN Jailbirds State Pay Increase: Rep. Matthew Hill's PASS GO HB2036
Tennessee "Conservative-In-Name-Only" Rep. Matthew Hill has reportedly been seen around the back side of the TNGA capitol building searching for the Great Money Tree to shake - during this time of economic distress in Tennessee caused by the Great Bush Recession, Rep. Hill is now wanting to launch his own economic stimulus program to give away more of taxpayers dollars to Tennessee Department of Correction jailbirds freed from the state prison system (and bus fare to the nearest gun show):

Correctional Programs - As introduced, revises statement of legislative intent on prisoner labor and revises release provisions for inmates, including cash allowance. - Amends TCA Title 41.
Fiscal Summary Increase State Expenditures - $123,100
Bill Summary Present law authorizes the commissioner of correction to furnish each inmate at the inmate's release from a department of correction institution appropriate clothing, an amount of money not to exceed $30.00 for an inmate leaving on parole or probation, and an amount not to exceed $75.00 for an inmate who is discharged without further supervision. Each inmate who is paroled or placed on probation must also be provided with a nontransferable ticket for the cheapest available means of transportation to the inmate's approved parole or probation residence when private transportation is not available. A parole or probation violator who is re-released within three months following the violator's return to the custody of the department does not receive any of the release provisions described above.

This bill increases the amount of money the commissioner may furnish each inmate at the inmate's release:
(1) From $30.00 to $50.00 for an inmate leaving on parole or probation; and (2) From $75.00 to $100 for an inmate who is discharged without further supervision.
This bill extends the period in which an inmate who is re-released during that period may not receive any release provisions from three months to six months.
