NASHVILLE - The House voted 69-27 to override Gov. Phil Bredesen's veto of the so-called "guns in bars" bill today. That was a bigger margin that when the bill passed the House earlier on a 66-23 vote.
The Senate is scheduled to vote on the override Thursday.
Bredesen vetoed the bill last week, saying alcohol and guns "don't mix." He was backed by a crowd of more than 40 law enforcement officers and district attorneys general appearing at a news conference with him.
But sponsor Rep. Curry Todd, R-Collierville, said "there is a large majority of law enforcement officers - the rank and file, the chiefs - who support this legislation."
