The reptiles and the representatives

They stood, patiently, on their hind legs in the very back row of the South Gallery of the Senate on Tuesday, their front legs folded over their light green bellies.

After 45 minutes of the usual Senate pomp, the alligators sat down, in effect, sharing their seats with their long, fat tails.
